Ingredients

For the Stew
  • 1 head Cabbage Chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 lb Ground beef or lamb Use ground lamb for a traditional taste
  • 1 medium Onion Finely chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 2 cups Tomatoes Fresh or canned, diced
  • 1 medium Bell pepper Red, yellow, or green
  • 1 tbsp Cumin Essential spice
  • 1 tbsp Paprika Essential spice
  • 4 cups Vegetable broth Flavorful liquid
For the Garnish
  • 1 bunch Fresh parsley Chopped
  • 1 medium Lemon Cut into wedges

Method

Preparation
  1. Gather ingredients: Start by collecting all your ingredients—cabbage, tomatoes, onions, and spices.
  2. Prepare the cabbage: Chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
  3. Sauté onions: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add tomatoes: Stir in diced tomatoes and cook for another 5-7 minutes until they break down.
  5. Incorporate cabbage: Gently fold in the chopped cabbage and allow it to wilt slightly for about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Season generously: Sprinkle salt, pepper, and spices over the mixture. Stir well and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  7. Simmer together: Pour in enough broth to cover the ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover, simmering for 25-30 minutes.
  8. Check doneness: After simmering, check if the cabbage is tender. If not, give it a few more minutes on low heat.
