Ingredients

Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 cup warm water around 110°F (43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar to feed the yeast
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg beaten, for egg wash

Method

Making the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, salt, and flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and flatten slightly.
  3. Place the shaped dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  4. Brush the tops with beaten egg. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
