  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened

  • 4 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Decoration
  • 1 cup fresh flowers edible
  • 1 cup fondant optional for covering

Method

Prepare Cake Layers
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour the baking pans.
  2. In a stand mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Make Buttercream Frosting
  1. In a stand mixer, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until combined.
  3. Add heavy cream and vanilla extract, then beat on high speed until light and fluffy.
Assemble and Decorate
  1. Level the cooled cake layers using a cake leveler or serrated knife.
  2. Place the first layer on a cake board and spread a layer of buttercream frosting on top.
  3. Repeat with remaining layers, stacking them on top of each other.
  4. Cover the entire cake with a thin layer of buttercream to create a crumb coat, then chill for 30 minutes.
  5. Apply a final layer of buttercream and smooth it out with an offset spatula.
  6. Decorate with fresh flowers and fondant as desired.
