Ingredients

Dough
  • 1 cup warm water about 110°F
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
Baking Soda Solution
  • 1 cup baking soda for boiling
  • 10 cups water for boiling
Toppings
  • 1 egg egg wash beaten
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
Shape the Pretzels
  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope, about 24 inches long.
  3. Shape each rope into a bunny form by creating a loop for the body and two smaller loops for the ears.
Boil and Bake
  1. In a saucepan, bring water and baking soda to a boil. Carefully drop each pretzel into the boiling solution for about 30 seconds.
  2. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
Serve
  1. Let the pretzels cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Easter Bunny Soft Pretzels!
