Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and sugar.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter; add eggs one at a time, then mix in buttermilk and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients until just mixed.
  5. Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. For the frosting, combine coconut flakes, toasted pecans, brown sugar, evaporated milk, egg yolks, and butter in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened.
