Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup whole milk (warm)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 3 cups diced tart apples (like Granny Smith)
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, granulated sugar, and yeast. Let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes). Add melted butter, salt, and half of the flour; mix well. Gradually add remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes on a floured surface until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Meanwhile, mix diced apples with brown sugar and cinnamon for the filling.
- Roll out risen dough on a floured surface to about ½ inch thick. Spread apple filling evenly over the dough and roll tightly into a log.
- Slice into about 12 equal pieces and place in a greased baking pan. Let rise again for about 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool slightly before drizzling with cream cheese frosting.
