Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F / 43°C)
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • ⅓ cup baking soda
  • ¼ cup melted butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Add flour and salt; mix until a dough forms.
  2. Knead Until Smooth: Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Add more flour if sticky.
  3. Let It Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm area until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  4. Shape Your Pretzels: Punch down the risen dough, divide it into pieces, roll each piece into ropes, then twist into pretzel shapes.
  5. Boil With Baking Soda: Bring water to a boil; add baking soda. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds before placing them on greased baking sheets.
  6. Bake to Perfection: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Brush pretzels with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
