Description

Brown Butter Sage Dinner Rolls are a delightful blend of nutty brown butter and aromatic sage, creating fluffy, golden-brown rolls that will elevate any meal. Perfect for family dinners or festive gatherings, these rolls are easy to prepare and boast an irresistible aroma that fills your kitchen. With minimal effort and simple ingredients, they promise to impress everyone at the table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk (warm)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 6 sage leaves (finely chopped)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (browned)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until it turns rich brown and smells nutty. Set aside to cool.
  2. Warm the milk to lukewarm (about 100°F). In a bowl, combine warm milk, brown sugar, and instant yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add half of this mixture to the yeast mixture.
  4. Stir in browned butter (reserve a tablespoon), egg, and chopped sage. Gradually add remaining flour until you form a soft dough.
  5. Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area until doubled (about an hour).
  6. Punch down the dough, divide into twelve portions, shape into rolls, and place in a greased baking dish.
  7. Let rise again until doubled (30 minutes). Preheat oven to 375°F and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Brush with reserved butter before serving.
