- 4 medium Russet potatoes, thinly sliced (about 1.5 lbs)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp butter (for greasing the dish)
- ½ cup panko breadcrumbs (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
- Peel and thinly slice the potatoes into rounds, approximately an eighth of an inch thick. Rinse under cold water.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Heat until simmering but not boiling. Stir in half of the grated cheddar until melted.
- Layer half of the potato slices in the greased baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over them and sprinkle some shredded cheese on top. Repeat with remaining potatoes and sauce.
- If desired, sprinkle panko breadcrumbs on top for added crunch.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
