Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups diced tart apples (e.g., Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes). In another bowl, mix flour and salt. Add melted butter and eggs to the flour mixture, then pour in the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Knead: Flour your countertop and knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Rise: Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll Out: Punch down the dough, roll it out into a rectangle about half an inch thick. Spread softened butter on top, then sprinkle with brown sugar mixed with cinnamon and diced apples.
  5. Shape Rolls: Roll tightly from one end to another, slice into one-inch pieces, and place in a greased baking dish.
  6. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cover rolls and let them rise for another 30 minutes before baking them for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Icing: Drizzle icing (powdered sugar mixed with vanilla extract and enough milk for consistency) over warm rolls before serving.
